The Student Real Industry Challenge will engage all levels of higher education in California and an industry in developing innovative solutions for real-world sustainability challenges. Students approach sustainability issues in a unique manner as champions of research and uninhibited free thinkers. The UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference is the ideal opportunity to bring together the best and the brightest students, staff, faculty and administrators that are shifting the tides on their respective campuses. The challenge is to apply the cutting edge ideas to previously existing industries and convert their practices to those that are more in balance with green business principles aligning with the conferences theme of “putting sustainability to work”. The Challenge shall serve
as a model process for collaboration in framing issues and tentative solutions to a successful implementation of ideas.

The Student Convergence will be an opportunity for students from all campuses to come together, meet each other, share best practices, and learn about opportunities for state-wide organizing. There will be space set aside during the day for University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and California Community College (CCC) campuses to split into break-out groups with students from their own systems as well as some opportunities to bring all three groups together.
